Homework

Kia ora,

Blog
Room One’s blog is up and running. You will be able to see what happens in the class through our blog and I will also offer information that will help you to help your child at home.

You can also access this link though our school website.

Homework
The children are in charge of making sure that they get their daily homework completed, please support them in this. They should do read, write, and do spelling and maths daily. Below are some ideas of activities so that you can help them.

Reading
Your child is reminded to bring home a new reader each night. Note: they must have a bookbag to take home a reader. If they have a chapter book this could replace the readers. Please encourage them to read for 15 minutes each night. At times your child will have the same reader for more than one day, re-reading the story will help your child build reading fluency and that is OK.
A reading log will be found at the back of the homework/reading log book.

Spelling
They will have 10 spelling words to learn each night. The list that they choose their words from are in the front of their homework book. They could;
- write a story that includes each word
- put the words into sentences
- find the dictionary definition
- write them on the concrete with a brush and water/chalk
Further at home spelling help will be put on the blog this week

Writing
Please encourage them to do some writing at home. This could include;
-writing about a favourite book/story character
-shopping lists
-birthday cards
-recipes for cooking
-drawing and labeling a picture

Numeracy
Learning could include;
-Testing them on their basic facts to twenty e.g 6 + 7 =    17 + 3 =
-helping them to learn the times tables e.g 3 and 4 times tables
-when out for a walk adding up the numbers on a letter box
-before and after numbers of license plates while driving
-measuring while baking and cooking
